Coronavirus Resources

We understand that many are facing unforeseen financial difficulties during the coronavirus pandemic. We want you to remember that Titan Link is here for you, and so is your community. Many companies and community resources are going the extra mile to assist those who are impacted by policies and closures because of the COVID-19 virus.

We are sharing resources that we have found especially helpful when looking for the assistance that is available to you.

Food Assistance for Free or Reduced Lunch

If you have a child that receives free or reduced lunch, contact your local public school for meal options.

The AuntBertha website provides a way to search for help within your zip code. The site also has done a great job of staying up to date on new resources that are available in response to coronavirus. AuntBertha offers resources for food, housing, utilities, Internet access, phone access, and more.

The United Way is another organization that is always available and looking for new ways to assist those in need. Dial 2-1-1 is available to find community health and human service resources. It is a free, confidential telephone information and referral system that quickly links people seeking help with the community resources they need. Unemployment for Reduction of Hours or Job Loss

Gov. Roy Cooper issued an Executive Order in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Cooper’s executive order does the following:

  • removes the one-week waiting period to apply for unemployment benefits for those workers who lose their jobs;
  • removes the requirement that a person must look for another job during this time when so many potential employers are closed and social distancing guidelines are in effect;
  • allows employees who lose their jobs or, in certain cases, have their hours reduced because of coronavirus issues, to apply for unemployment benefits;
  • waives the requirement that part of the application process be in person;
  • directs that these unemployment losses won’t be counted against employers.

You can apply for benefits online 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you need help, contact the Customer Call Center at 888-737-0259, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.

Coronavirus Stimulus Package

As many of you may already know congress has passed a bill for a stimulus package in response to the coronavirus pandemic. This bill includes many areas of assistance that will be relevant for those financially affected by the coronavirus. We have listed a brief summary below along with the link to the New York Times article source.

  • Federal student loan payments will be suspended until December 31, 2020. There will be automatic payment suspensions for any student loan held by the federal government, and it’s retroactive to March 13. (Although, we understand most students are not in repayment for their federal student loans at this point anyway.)
  • You can withdraw up to $100,000 from your IRA or workplace retirement this year without the usual 10 percent penalty, as long as it’s because of the outbreak.
  • The April 2020 stimulus bill puts a temporary, nationwide eviction moratorium in place for any renters whose landlords have mortgages backed or owned by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and other federal entities. This will last for 120 days after the bill passes, and landlords also can’t charge any fees or penalties for nonpayment of rent.

As a reminder many companies and loan providers are offering assistance on their own that is not mentioned in the article. For example, Duke Energy has suspended all disconnections and late payment fees in response to the current pandemic, and many loan providers are offering automatic forbearance if you reach out. If you are having trouble making payments on any of your bills, you should contact that company first to see what programs they already have in place to help those affected by the pandemic.

Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) Program
